Haiti, occupying the western third the Caribbean island of Hispaniola, is a nation rich in natural beauty and culture. However, there lies perhaps no steeper gradient of inequality anywhere on earth than that separating Haiti and its neighbor just 90 minutes to the north, the United States. Haiti is the most resource-limited country in the western hemisphere and is among the poorest nations in the world. More than 80% of its 8 million people live each day in poverty, and healthy average life expectancy (HALE) is just 43 years. Despite this great need for health care, the World Health Organization estimates that there are just 0.25 physicians, 0.11 nurses, and 0.01 dentists per 1,000 people, with even fewer health professionals accessible to the millions living in rural areas. Haiti has among the lowest health indices in the Western hemisphere, with treatable infections and preventable maternal and child mortality taking a grave toll.

- In collaboration with multiple organizations, the Early Infant Diagnosis of HIV project seeks to serve over 1300 adults and children in the antiretroviral therapy program at Hopital Sacre Coeur, a large referral hospital in the Nord Department of Haiti, 12 miles southwest of Cap Haitien.  This is the primary hospital in the North of Haiti.

- In collaboration with several grassroots organizations, the Gatineau Health Center project aims to serve 45,000-50,000 Haitian women, men, and children in the immediate catchment area (which includes Haute Guinaudee, Basse Guinaudee and part of Ravine a Charles in the rural commune of Jérémie). The secondary care service area population—which includes the commune of Jérémie—consists of 140,000 people.
